Why Install Line Set Covers?

Without covers, your mini split's connection bundle (two copper lines wrapped in black insulation, a drain line, and a wire) runs exposed along your exterior wall. Line-Set Cover Types

Line-set covers come in three material families, and the choice affects both install method and durability.

Rigid PVC ductwork is the most common. Sold as pre-cut straight lengths (typically 78" or 84") with matching corner elbows, tee fittings, wall inlets, and end caps. If the outdoor run bundles two or more zone line sets from a multi-zone system, size up one width class — a 3-zone system's three parallel line sets typically need a 5.5" cover even if each individual set would fit a smaller one.

Install Steps (Snap-Lock PVC or Aluminum)

All manufacturers publish install manuals; the sequence below is the general order of operations across brands.

  1. Route-plan first. Sketch the run from indoor unit to outdoor unit. Minimize elbows — each 90° elbow adds refrigerant pressure drop and slows install. Prefer one or two large-radius turns over many short ones. Keep the cover at least 4" clear of window trim and door frames.

  3. Cut cover to length. A fine-tooth hacksaw or PVC pipe cutter produces the cleanest edge. Deburr with a utility knife. For aluminum, use a metal-cutting blade in a jigsaw.
  4. Test-fit elbows and couplings dry before running the line set. Corner fittings snap onto adjacent straight sections and must align with the mounting base.
  5. Route the bundle through the mounting channel. The refrigerant lines, condensate drain, and low-voltage cable run parallel inside the cover.   6. Seal the wall penetration. The through-wall port needs a dedicated wall-collar (included with most Slimduct-tier kits) plus exterior-grade silicone or urethane sealant on the outside. Interior-side, use vapor-permeable sealant to allow drying.
  7. Snap the cover on. Start at one end and work toward the other, seating each section on the base rail. Corner elbows and couplings snap into place last.
  8. Paint if desired. Clean the cover, prime with a plastic-adhering primer for PVC (or self-etching primer for aluminum), then apply exterior acrylic latex. Two thin coats hold up better than one thick.
